Naan Bread (Sharon P.)

Here’s a good one for naan bread – it’s really easy and seems to work every time!

750g strong White Flour
90 g butter
salt

  • Rub butter into flour and salt

3 teaspoons dried yeast
30g caster sugar
(optional) Onion seeds (I haven’t managed to find onion seeds here but mustard seeds seem to do just as well)

  • Mix in sugar, yeast and onion seeds (if using)

450ml warm milk

  • Make a well in the middle and stir in the milk

  • Knead to a dough

  • Leave in a warm place to rise

  • Make into 8 pieces (flatten – rolling pin useful here!)

  • Put grill on – it needs to be very hot – and the pan needs to be hot before putting bread on

  • Cook under grill turning once (will rise so need to keep an eye on!)

Ghee or butter

  • Brush with ghee or butter

They freeze well and can just be popped in the microwave to warm up when required)
