Place of Reeds: Mesoamerican Setting for a RPG Campaign

Teotihuacan

Teotihuacan in Ruins
The Avenue of the Dead and the Pyramid of the Sun,
from the Pyramid of the Moon

I have liked M.A.R. Barker's fictional world of Tekumel since I was a teenager but as I've read more on Mesoamerica I've realised that Barker owes a fairly large debt to historical precedents. So I thought about running a role playing campaign set in Mesoamerica (or the New World). I wanted to avoid a period where there was too much historical data but retain the flavour of the times, e.g. pyramid-temples, human sacrifice, feather clad warriors, etc. I settled on a city called the Place of Reeds based on the historical city of Teotihuacan.
