Hurrah Stalino!
Balagan on Hurrah Stalino!

Hurrah Stalino! is a Corps to Army Level Rules for Conflict on the Russian Front 1942 to 1945. It is by the Neo Stalinist Reality Wargames Collective aka Kremlin Miniatures. I got interested when I was looking at Operational level games. Martin Rapier said of Hurrah Stalino! that "it looks a bit daft at first glance but is actually a damn good game, very subtle".
Ground Scale
Hurrah Stalino! is for 1/300th scale figures. The table is divided into 3" sectors where a sector frontage represents 1.5 to 2 km. The table sectors need to be big enough to accommodate six stands so the rules recommend a 1" frontage for a stand, i.e. one third of the sector frontage.
My WW2 troops are 15mm and based on 3cm wide stands so wider than the recommended size (1"). With my wider stands I need bigger sectors. I could go for a 9cm wide sector to keep the proportions exactly the same. But 9cm is rather awkward and I think 10cm would be easier to measure on the table.
The table below shows the ground scale for various sector widths, both the measurement on the table (75, 90 and 100mm) and the equivalent real measurement (1.5, 1.8 and 2.0 km).
| Sector on Table | 1.5 km | 1.8 km | 2.0 km |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75mm (3") | 1:20,000 | 1:24,000 | 1:26,667 |
| 90mm | 1:16,667 | 1:20,000 | 1:22,222 |
| 100mm (4") | 1:15,000 | 1:18,000 | 1:20,000 |
