406 - 711 Fall of Rome and the Barbarian Kingdoms

Rules

I have been using DBM for all my ancients which means  I haven't  play in this period very often.   Barbarians were too uncontrollable under DBM before 3.0 -  in particular combining mounted generals and spontaneous foot hordes was historical but impossible under the rules.

Armies

I've a Barbarian Horde that can act as Suevi, Vandal, Visigothic, or similar, plus Alan allies, and the Romans to fend them off.  My favourite Horde are the Suevi = Wb(S) = but my overall favourites are the Alans.

I have fielded the following armies ...

Alan 50 AD - 1500 AD (DBM Book 2, List 58)

Suevi (plus some other guys) 250 AD - 586 AD (DBM Book 2, List 72)

Late Imperial Roman 307 AD - 425 AD (DBM Book 2, List 78)

Later Visigothic 419 AD - 720 AD (DBM Book 2, List 82)

Patrician roman 425 AD - 493 AD (DBM Book 2, List 83)

I could field, but haven't

Early Vandal 200 AD - 442 AD (DBM Book 2, List 66)

Scale

15 mm

Figures

The Barbarian figures are predominantly from Essex Miniatures and Donnington. The regular Romans are a mix of Essex Miniatures or from some dubious range that I can't recall now (what with buying them second hand and all).

The Donnington Barbarians are BIG compared to the Essex, but that is okay as I like variety and some real people are BIG too.
