Painting Guide - Fallschirmjaeger

Steven's Figures
My first company (F-1) comprises, mostly, the better painted figures from ebay. I've mixed in a few figures from the averagely painted chaps as I needed a few panzershreks and panzerfausts.

Battle Front / Flames of War
The Vallejo colour schemes from Battle Front: Fallschirmjaeger Camouflage. As it happens I don't like the way they've painted the figures, but the colour suggestions seem sensible.
| Item | When | Area | Colours based on actual clothing | Vallejo Paints with Colour Chart Patches | Vallejo Paints as per Fallschirmjaeger Camouflage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plain olive green Smock | Early War | VP886 Green Grey | |||
| Splinter pattern camouflage
(Had jagged straight edges) (This is the Tan variation; also came with a pale greenish base) |
From 1941 (before Crete) | base colour | VP821 German Camo Beige | ||
| Jagged patches | VP826 German Camo Medium Brown | ||||
| Jagged patches | VP823 Luftwaffe Camo Green (or VP890 reflective green) | ||||
| Water pattern camouflage
(Had rounded edges): |
From late 1943 | base colour | VP874 US Tan Earth - | ||
| Blotch | VP940 Saddle brown | ||||
| Blotch | VP890 reflective green (or VP823 Luftwaffe Camo Green) | ||||
| Tropical Jacket | |||||
| Tropical Trousers | |||||
| Blue Trouser |
In terms of style of painting, I actually prefer the way the camo is painted on other BattleFront pages:
- Fallschirmjaegerkompanie (GBX08)
- Fallschirmjaeger Platoon (GE762)
- Fallschirmjaeger Platoon Battleworn (GE763)
- Fallschirmjaeger Anti-tank Gun Platoon (GE502)
- Fallschirmjaeger Anti-aircraft Gun Platoon (GE543)
- Fallschirmjaeger Light Gun Platoon (GE561)
- Fallschirmjaeger Mortar Platoon (GE765)
- Fallschirmjaeger Machine-gun Platoon (GE764)
This one seems to have a mix of early war and camo uniforms, which seems a bit odd.
Earthquake's Skirmish Pages
Earthquake's Skirmish Pages has a couple of Painting Guides for Fallschirmjaeger:

Earthquake's guide basically says to paint an early war Fallschirmjaeger this way:

- Smock: Basecoat Tamyia Black Green (XF-27), dry brush Humbrol Dark Green (30), dry brush Coat d'arms Green Grey (505),

- ammunition bandolier: Coat d'arms Uniform Grey (525), shaded with Black Ink, drybrushed Coat d'arms Uniform Grey (525). (Can substitute Coat d'arms 'Slate Grey' for the Coat d'arms Uniform Grey (525))
- rifle: Citadel Spearstaff Brown and Tamyia Gun Metal (X-10) (or Citadel 'Bolt Gun Metal', wash Citadel 'Armour Wash'.)
- Potato Masher grenades: Handle painted Citadel 'Snakebite Leather'; Tops
Tamyia 'Field Grey', drybrushCoat d'arms 'Green Grey'. - Buckles: Citadel Bolt Gun Metal
- Eyes: Citadel Skull White.
For a late war guy, as above, except:
- Forage cap: basecoat Tamyia 'Field Grey', drybrush Coat d'arms 'Green Grey'.
- Zeltbahn 31 pattern Camouflage Smock: basecoat Coat d'arms Pale Green, apply geometric patterns of Coat d'arms 'Brick Red' and Coat d'arms 'Military Green', coat of Tamyia 'Smoke', matt varnish.
